Chanice
The first mission took place in 1887 in an Indian reservation. However, there was no residence for priests of this mission. Yet missionaries were visitors to Native Americans in Spruce Grove St. Albert and Edmonton. In 1887, Reverend Rissier had been chosen to help the French take place permanently in the residence. He was incharge of the mission until 1891 , because he had recieved an offer of employment in a different area. Simonin's father had teken his place, yet he was returned to the mission in 1903 until 1906 and for the third time in 1908-1922. The priest who had worked for the mission, were Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
A group of Christians, who had settled around the reserve, had the idea to build a new church and wanted to expand the old church. The new church was erected by Father Patrck Beaudry in 1928, it was nicknamed "Our Lady of Prepetual Help" by Archibishop Henry O'Leary in 1931. In 1957, Father Marcel Landry was the new priest and the old church was demolished to make way for a new church was built on the same site. It was built on March 2 1961 and was blessed and named " Our Lady Mercy." It was a Presbyterian church until 1925, and after that became a Catholic church.
The Lady Aid had brought joy, a tremendous help for the church and were mentioned in testimony, because they were heavily involved in the organization of the church. They had so much help that the church had changed its name to "United Church Women", when they went to the church assembles. in 1961, Reverend Swartz who was the minister of the churches of St. Albert Winterburn came to the congregation occupied until March 1965.
